The 47th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 featured the Mumbai Indians taking on the Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on May 4. Mumbai Indians secured a comfortable victory, powered by outstanding performances from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton led the chase with impressive knocks as the Mumbai Indians successfully chased down a target of 228—their highest successful run chase in IPL history—defeating Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets. The win ended Mumbai’s three-match losing streak and helped them avoid slipping to the bottom of the points table.

Following this match, the Mumbai Indians have four games remaining, while the Lucknow Super Giants have five. Even if Mumbai win all their remaining matches, they can reach a maximum of 14 points, the same as Lucknow’s potential total. However, with teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad already on 12 points, and Punjab Kings on 13, the competition remains intense. Typically, at least 16 points are required to qualify for the playoffs, meaning both Mumbai and Lucknow will need favourable results from other teams to stay in contention.

Mumbai Indians Beat Lucknow Super Giants to End Three-Match Losing Streak

After winning the toss, the Mumbai Indians chose to bowl first against the Lucknow Super Giants. LSG started aggressively, but Allah Ghazanfar provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Josh Inglis. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran then counterattacked, adding a quick 50-run partnership as LSG reached 90/1 in the powerplay. Pooran continued his dominance, scoring a rapid half-century in just 16 balls.

Mumbai fought back strongly when Corbin Bosch dismissed both Pooran (63 off 21) and Marsh (44 off 25) in the same over. Rishabh Pant and others failed to build momentum, but a crucial unbeaten partnership between Aiden Markram and Himmat Singh added 62 runs, helping LSG post a strong total of 228/5 in 20 overs.

In response, the Mumbai Indians got off to a flying start, with Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma adding 71 runs in the powerplay. Both batters scored quick half-centuries, building a massive 143-run opening stand. Rickelton scored 83 off 32 balls before being dismissed by Mohsin Khan, while Rohit made 84 off 44 balls before falling to M Siddharth.

Despite a few quick wickets in the middle overs, including Suryakumar Yadav falling cheaply to Mohammed Shami, Mumbai held their nerve. Naman Dhir and Will Jacks finished the chase calmly, guiding MI to victory with six wickets in hand and eight balls remaining.
