IPL 2026: Tim David penalised for ‘disobeying umpires’ during ball-testing controversy
Tim David was fined after breaching umpire instructions during a ball-testing incident in the IPL 2026 clash between RCB and MI.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has started on a positive note for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as they went past MI by 18 runs in yesterday's game. They put up 240 runs on the board in the first innings, which is a huge total. The MI batters tried their best to chase the runs and take the game home, but things didn't go their way.
Phil Salt's 78 off 36 deliveries, including six boundaries and sixes, helped RCB. But Tim David's contributions at the end of the innings were equally important. He scored 36 off 14 balls, including two boundaries and three sixes. But at the end of the match, he received a hefty fine from the umpires for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
Tim David fined for disobeying umpires in IPL 2026
RCB have some of the best batters in the team, who dare to smash boundaries even during the toughest times. One of them is Tim David, who has played unforgettable knocks in the last season and has continued his form this year as well. However, David breached the Code of Conduct of IPL 2026 and was fined 25% of his match fees.
He was seen playing with the ball during the 18th over. The on-field umpires gave him multiple warnings, but he ignored them. This led to the breaching of the Code of Conduct. He admitted to his offence and was then punished by the IPL committee.
"The first incident occurred when the umpires changed the ball during the 18th over (17.2) of RCB's batting innings. He wanted to have a look at the ball and did not hand it over despite being repeatedly asked to do so. The second incident occurred during the 20th over (19.2), when he again did not hand over the ball to the umpires, amounting to a repeated failure to comply with the instructions or directives of the umpires," read the IPL statement.
