When the intensity of the rain peaked in the evening, and the toss was delayed during the clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, any action in the middle looked hard to take place.

But once the rain stopped, the grounds men did a great job to soak the water and dry the outfield, which allowed the umpires to conduct an 11-over per side between the two champions. The Mumbai captain, Hardik Pandya, returning to the action, won the toss and decided to bowl first without a second thought.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi nails Jasprit Bumrah for first-ball six

Before the game, the excitement was around the head-to-head between the two sensational players- the premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, and the 15-year-old wonder kid, Vaibhav SooryavanshiBoth were yet to come against each other in the last season of the event, and the IPL would be the only platform for their meeting.

Watch the video here:

On the very first ball of the faceoff, Jasprit Bumrah went with a delivery into the slot of Sooryavanshi, who, with a lovely back lift, flicked it with style over wide long-on as the ball sailed over the rope for a massive six. Bumrah could only smile while walking back to his mark.

On the fourth delivery of the same over, the Ahmedabad-born went with a slower delivery down the leg side as the left-handed batter rocked back and swiveled while pulling it high and deep into the stands beyond the backward square leg for a massive six.

RR blew away MI inside power play

It was an odd decision from Pandya and the M management not to hand over the first over to Bumrah. Yashasvi Jaiswal took full advantage of it and drilled four boundaries and a six on the first six-ball set against Deepak Chahar before the inaugural champions added 14 runs off the second over of the innings.

Trent Boult, coming to bowl the third over of the innings, was put into the stands thrice for 22 runs as the Royals collected 59 runs without any loss in the restricted 3.2 overs of powerplay. Hardik came to arrest the momentum with a four-run fourth over.

Brief Scores: (at the time of writing)- RR 84/2 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 41*, A Ghazanfar 1/5) vs MI
