The IPL 2027 auction date and venue have reportedly been revealed. The mini auction will take place on December 16, 2026, and Goa will host all ten franchises for it.

According to a Cricbuzz report, multiple IPL franchises have confirmed receiving a message from the BCCI logistics team about the auction. However, the board has not yet sent a formal email confirming the date and venue. As quoted by Cricbuzz, the BCCI WhatsApp note read, “The IPL 2027 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026 at ITC Grand Goa and auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026,”

IPL 2027 auction: Date, venue and what to expect on the big day

The IPL 2027 auction schedule reportedly places the event on December 16 at ITC Grand Goa, with a briefing for franchises the day before, on December 15. Cricbuzz reported that the message was only meant to help franchises with logistics and travel bookings to Goa. A formal communication is expected from the BCCI in due course.

The reported IPL 2027 auction venue is a change from recent years. The last three IPL auctions (2024, 2025 and 2026) were all held overseas, in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board wanted to bring the auction back to India. The board also said a smaller event like a mini auction is easier to manage at home. Finding a venue in India was not easy, though, because the auction usually falls in December, which is wedding season.

The upcoming IPL 2027 mini auction will give franchises an opportunity to strengthen their squads before the next season. Teams must reportedly submit their final lists of retained and released players by November 15, 2026, ahead of the December auction. The next Indian Premier League season is likely to start from March 14 to May 30, 2027, although the final schedule has not yet been officially confirmed.

IPL 2027 trades between franchises: Which players have already changed hands before the auction

Several reported IPL 2027 trades have already attracted attention ahead of the mini auction. One of the biggest moves involves wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has reportedly returned to the Delhi Capitals, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved to the Lucknow Super Giants. The reported Pant-Kuldeep trade is among the major squad changes being discussed before the December auction.

Delhi Capitals have also been involved in another reported deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Left-arm pacer T Natarajan has reportedly moved to SRH for INR 5 crore, while bowler Zeeshan Ansari has joined Delhi Capitals. The Natarajan SRH trade has added another talking point ahead of the auction, as both franchises look to shape their squads for the upcoming season.

The trade window is still open, so more moves could follow before the auction. Hardik Pandya has been heavily rumoured to leave the five-time champions, the Mumbai Indians, though nothing has been confirmed. With the retention deadline getting closer, fans can expect plenty more news before the action begins in Goa.
