There was a special moment that took place at the Wankhede Stadium as a stand was named after former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honoured him for his long contribution to Indian cricket. The ceremony was attended by big names like Sunil Gavaskar and Suryakumar Yadav.

Along with Shastri, MCA also honoured other legends of Mumbai cricket. Stadium gates were named after Diana Edulji, Eknath Solkar, and Dilip Sardesai. This was done to recognise their contribution to Indian cricket over the years.

The event was held ahead of the IPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MCA officials were also present. The decision to honour these legends was taken earlier by the MCA council.

Ravi Shastri expresses gratitude after special recognition at Wankhede

Ravi Shastri said he felt very proud after this honor. He thanked the Mumbai Cricket Association and said, “It is a big honour for me. One has to work very hard for this moment. I am very proud.”

He also spoke about his long journey with the stadium. Shastri said he has been coming to Wankhede for 45 years, playing cricket and being part of many roles. He said the history of Mumbai cricket and the names on the stands make this honour even more special and difficult to achieve.

Shastri also shared his memories and emotions. He said there are countless memorable moments at this ground and it is a place where he has experienced everything in cricket. He added that getting his name on the stand is not easy and thanked MCA again for this special recognition.
