Shreyas Iyer is in seventh heaven after taking his current IPL team, Punjab Kings (PBKS), to the top 2. Punjab, already qualified for the playoffs, entered into the Sawai Mansingh Stadium with the target to make their spot confirmed at the top two. The scenario was almost same for Mumbai Indians (MI). If they manage to perform better than Kings, then they can be there, at the safest spot of the ladder.
Without the service of Yuzvendra Chahal, Iyer's challenge to hold back Mumbai Indians was more difficult than before. Chahal, one of the revamped stories of the ongoing IPL 2025, was out of today's competition due to a wrist injury.
As Punjab Kings, the team led by Shreyas Iyer, proved before in the season that they are performing as a unit, not relying on any individual, outclassed the 5-time IPL winning franchise by 7 wickets and 9 balls to spare.

Mumbai, batting first, scored 184 for 7 in 20 overs—definitely a fighting total. But PBKS performed like a fully armored tank, chased down the target after losing 3 wickets, and confirmed their spot at the top 2. As soon as the match concluded, Iyer, as a captain, created an all-time record that no one before had done.
Currently he is the only captain who guided three different teams in different seasons to guide them to the top 2 of the points table. Before achieving this position with Punjab, the India international carried Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the top 2 as a leader. Last season, he helped Kolkata Knight Riders to win the IPL title, and then he opted to push for new endeavors.
Against Mumbai, Priyansh Arya (62) and Josh Inglis (73) made the task easy for their skipper, and the skipper himself remained unbeaten for 26 and took his team to the finish line safely.
