The left-arm spinner from the Jharkhand side, Anukul Roy, has reflected on the superb catch and the suggestion of MS Dhoni ahead of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Ahead of Kolkata Knight Riders’ second clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, which will be their first game at home- Eden Gardens in Kolkata- against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the talking point has been the superb catch of Anukul Roy, who reflected on how he completed the catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma.
A poor bowling performance from the visitors saw the Knight Riders lose the contest by a massive margin. They aimed to be back at home and open their account against Hyderabad, who also lost their opening game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Anukul Roy reflects on perfect catch of Rohit Sharma
Anukul Roy has always been a great fielder as he has displayed those fine catches, whether for the KKR side or even when he was part of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, or even when he featured for Jharkhand in domestic cricket.
“Now, everyone calls me Jaddu. Because they see the perfection in the catch and how good a catch I have taken on the boundary rope. And I also feel that I must have done something right after being compared to Jaddu. My fielding is similar to his. The type of work that Fielding Jaddu has done has been incredible. So, the feeling is excellent.” Roy expressed in an IG video on Instagram.

“I was myself surprised by ‘what a catch’ when I saw that catch of Rohit Sharma later on the phone. Brilliant. Because the ball looked to be going away, but I grabbed it. I expected every ball to come my way. Anticipation is very important. That makes it really easy. I give fielding at least 10 minutes in practice.” The left-arm pacer revealed.

“I spoke to Dhoni bhai last year in the IPL. And he said that the more you perform domestically, the more chances you will get here to play the games. So, all these things stayed with me when I played the domestic games for Jharkhand. So, I tried to do something during the entire event. That gave me a lot of confidence.” Roy noted.
The left-arm spinner has overall picked up six wickets in 11 innings of the IPL at an average of around 39 and an economy rate of 8.37 with the best bowling figures of 2/19 in an innings.
