Watch: Jasprit Bumrah gets a special name from Aussie commentators

India start the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 dominantly by thrashing the hosts Australia at the Perth Stadium, and the stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was the key to the visitors' success. The Aussie commentators, including the former Australian pacer Damien Fleming, were thrilled to experience Bumrah’s dominance at the Perth Stadium. Fleming also lauded the stand-in Indian Test captain.

In the absence of regular Test captain Rohit Sharma, Jaspirt Bumrah led the Indian team for the opening game of the five-match Test series against the hosts Australia. After Indian captain Bumrah chose to bat first, the Aussie pacers welcomed the challenging visitors for 150 all out.

Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah dominated

In reply, Bumrah started his job from the first day of the Test series as his fifer demolished the hosts’ batting line-up for only 104 runs. In that second innings of the Test match, Bumrah had bowling figures of 18-6-30-5.

After earning the 46-run lead, India scored 487/6 before the declaration after setting up the 534-run fourth innings target for the hosts. That innings experienced 200+ runs in opening partnerships between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul and centuries by Jaiswal (161) and the former skipper Virat Kohli (100*).

Bumrah shined fourth innings too

As expected, India dominantly thrashed the hosts after bowling out Australia for 238 runs. Hosts lost their first four wickets of that innings, including the nightwatchman and the skipper Pat Cummins, for only 17 runs, which put them in a hopeless situation. Bumrah (3/42) and his pace-bowling partner Mohammed Siraj (3/51) both took three wickets each in that innings.

In the fourth innings, Bumrah once again dominated. He not only took the wickets of the debutant opener Nathan McSweeney (0) and Marnus Labuschagne (3) but also dismissed the set batter Travis Head (89) with his great skill. Without any doubt, Bumrah won the Player of the Match award.

Aussie commentators on Bumrah

The SEN commentators experienced the horror of Aussie batting in front of Bumrah’s excellence throughout the match. Commentator Damien Fleming, a member of the Australian 1999 World Cup-winning squad, called Bumrah one of the great fast bowlers of all time.

Meanwhile, the other commentator called Bumrah “a wizard” after he dismissed the set batter Travis Head on the fourth day with his beautiful setup on his fresh spell.
