Jasprit Bumrah set to miss India vs New Zealand ODI series 2026 despite fitness clearance as BCCI manages his workload

Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the New Zealand ODI series despite reportedly receiving fitness clearance. According to a Times of India report, the team management wants to keep him fresh for upcoming Test assignments rather than risk unnecessary workload in bilateral ODIs.

The decision is about workload management, not a fresh injury concern. Bumrah is reportedly fit, but the management wants to carefully plan his schedule ahead of India's important red-ball matches.

The India vs New Zealand ODI series 2026 is scheduled to begin on November 4, with five matches planned before the Test series. India's reported approach reflects the importance of keeping its leading fast bowler ready for the longer format.

Jasprit Bumrah set to miss India vs New Zealand ODI series: What the report says and why BCCI is being cautious

According to the Times of India report, Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to feature in the five-match ODI series against New Zealand despite being fully fit. He is reportedly expected to play one of the India A vs New Zealand A fixture as part of his preparation for red-ball cricket.

The reported plan focuses on BCCI managing Bumrah's workload carefully, with the team aiming to avoid overworking its leading fast bowler before important Test matches. Bumrah previously suffered a back injury during the Sydney Test in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy, making careful workload planning especially important.

India also have a major Test assignment against Australia in January 2027, alongside their upcoming New Zealand Tests. Managing Bumrah's appearances could help him stay fresh for these matches, although his final schedule and any replacement for the ODI series should be confirmed through an official announcement.

For fans, the key question remains whether Bumrah will return for the Tests after missing the ODIs.
