Since the beginning of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the talk of the town was when would Jasprit Bumrah, the premier pacer of the Mumbai Indians, get his very first wicket of the event, having been dry with the ball in the first five clashes as they locked horns with the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

On the very first ball of the innings, Jasprit Bumrah opened his account in this competition. That put massive pressure on the Shubman Gill-led side, who were going after a 200-run chase in the second innings.

Jasprit Bumrah sends back Sai Sudharsan for golden duck

In the chase of 200 runs, the responsibility was massive on the Gujarat openers, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, to provide them a strong start with the bat inside the powerplay. So, they only aimed to get the big shots from the very first delivery, and that brought the downfall of Sai Sudharsan.

The left-handed batter’s feet didn’t move as he looked to slice the pitched-up delivery from Bumrah over the covers. But he didn’t get the potential elevation with the ball coming off the toe end of his bat. The cover-point fielder went back and grabbed a sharp catch to send the batter back to the hut.

That was the first wicket for the right-arm pacer after 146 deliveries and his first of this season after 114 balls. The Gujarat-born gave away just one run in that over as he picked up the wicket of the Tamil Nadu batter for the second time in IPL in three innings.

MI shocks GT with superb bowling

In this clash, it seemed to be a different MI side. They were charged up every single moment in the defense for every single delivery and restricted the GT side for 55/5 in the eighth over. Mitchell Santer was excellent for his two-wicket over.

Washington Sundar was dismissed at the boundary rope thanks to some superb fielding and catching performance. The home side looked lost in the chase and was always behind the eighth ball.

Brief Scores: GT 85/6 (W Sundar 26, Ashwani 2/14) vs MI 199/5 (Tilak Varma 101*, Kagiso Rabada 3/33)
