“Twist of events”: Mahieka Sharma pens heartfelt birthday note for Hardik Pandya on his 33rd birthday

Hardik Pandya’s girlfriend, Mahieka Sharma, has looked back at the journey of the Indian star on his 33rd birthday as he posted an emotional note on Instagram, where he spoke about the all-rounder’s rise and fall through the hard years of international and domestic cricket. The post also covers the star player’s early years in Baroda.  

Pandya hasn’t played any cricket since the end of the IPL 2026 and was out of the India squad for their home series against West Indies. He also won’t be part of their trip to New Zealand in the T20Is, while his return to the ODIs through the Australia A series was cut short.

Sharma began the note by taking the readers back to when Hardik was only 19. She described how the young player used the game as a channel for getting energy.

“Till Hardik was 19, he was a pure #4 batsman in Baroda. Years of performing as a batter were not enough to ensure he would get a place in a team. Hyper and athletic, cricket became the way to channel his energy. Barely educated, it would also become his grounds for expression.” Mahieka wrote.

“Years of performing as a batter were not enough to ensure he would get a place in a team. Politics and an inability to perform for the benefits of social inclusion separated him from his worthy selection. Being an avid runner - an uncommon trait among batsmen - he had a knack for working like a horse.” He added on her Instagram story.

Sharma said one habit set the former Gujarat Titans (GT) player apart from others. She also highlighted the exact moment when the veteran decided to become an all-rounder.

“Without knowing what empathy meant, while all the batsmen would leave after getting their share of balls, he would stay back after his batting was done to bowl for his bowler teammates’ batting practice. A school dropout, it was a good use of his time since he couldn’t afford any hobbies and there wasn’t much to do once home.” Mahieka wrote.  

“No amount of dreaming could’ve penned the script #33 was about to live. While my letter might only dip into 3% of the well of greatness that is his story, I smile knowing his medium isn’t words. It never was.” She addressed.
