Young pacer Harshit Rana will miss his upcoming tournament schedule because of his injury which creates a significant problem for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The 24-year-old fast bowler is still recovering from knee surgery and is not expected to regain full fitness in time for the upcoming season.

Rana sustained the injury during a warm-up match against South Africa ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The surgery for his right knee injury caused him to miss the worldwide competition which followed. Rana has been undergoing rehabilitation after the procedure but reports indicate he will not have enough fitness to take part in IPL 2026.

The Delhi-born pacer played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ successful campaign in IPL 2024, where the franchise lifted the title. Rana finished that season with 19 wickets, emerging as one of the standout performers for the team and the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. His impressive performances helped him gain recognition and become a regular name in discussions around India’s emerging fast bowlers.

KKR look for replacements as Harshit Rana misses IPL 2026

His performance during IPL 2025 experienced a small decline. Rana played 13 matches where he achieved 15 wickets but he failed to maintain steady performance because he allowed more than 10 runs to score against him during his bowling. He played a key role in KKR's bowling attack through his position as their essential fast bowler.

KKR management needs to find replacement players because they expect Rana will not return for the season. Reports suggest that Zimbabwe’s tall fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has emerged as a potential addition to the squad. The 6-foot-8 pacer impressed during the T20 World Cup 2026, finishing with 13 wickets in six matches and establishing himself as one of the standout bowlers in the tournament.

The three-time champions KKR need their remaining bowlers to perform better because Rana will be missing during their upcoming match. The team seeks to recover from their disappointing performance in IPL 2025 which resulted in an eighth-place finish.
