Massive trouble for CSK as Ayush Mhatre set to miss IPL 2026 due to injury
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has faced huge trouble in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign as Ayush Mhatre is set to miss a big chunk of the tournament.

Injuries have continued to make a massive impact on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as they are set to lose another important player of the competition. Their number three, Ayush Mhatre, is expected to be out of the event for nearly three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
After Ayush Mhatre’s dismissal in the 195-run chase, Chennai lost their entire momentum with the bat and failed to achieve the target at a required run rate of around eight, falling short of the target by 10 runs. Mhatre, freeing his arms, got dismissed for 30 runs off 13 balls with the help of five boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 230.77.

Mhatre came as the impact player of Gurjapneet Singh. He tried to steal a run with Ruturaj Gaikwad inside the power play and looked in serious pain before being attended by the team’s physiotherapist, Tommy Simsek.
On the very next delivery, Gaikwad tickled the ball into the leg side and called for a rapid single as Mhatre hobbled into the other hand and survived the run-out. The reports have claimed that the injury hasn’t been as bad as one feared, with the batter not experiencing any pain later.

However, the real extent of the injury would be known only when he reaches Mumbai on Monday (April 20), when he goes for the test. It has been suggested that the 18-year-old has been able to walk without much pain, but there is a chance of the soreness coming back at a later stage of the competition.
“Obviously, a hamstring tear. I don’t know how bad it is. I’m sure we’ll scan him probably tomorrow or the next day. It looks pretty bad, unfortunately. And he’s going to be a big, big loss because he’s been in really nice touch for us.” CSK batting coach, Michael Hussey, expressed in the post-match press conference.

It’s hard to believe how the five-time champions botched the contest from a winning position. Their number four, Matthew Short, played 30 balls and returned with just 34 runs with three boundaries before being dismissed in the 16th over. Sarfaraz Khan played a wrong shot for 25 runs off 19 balls.
Meanwhile, at number six, Dewald Brevis got out for a four-ball duck. Shivam Dube failed for 21 runs in 16 balls. They had the chance to make a hat-trick of wins after three successive defeats, but they find themselves in seventh position in the points table.
CSK faces the Mumbai Indians in their next clash on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Kolkata.
