The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who experienced a struggling batting performance in their previous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Gujarat Titans (GT), hoped for a better show against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which is renowned for the massive scores.

The home side captain, Rajat Patidar, won the toss and opted to bowl first on a surface which could help the pacers with the new ball if they apply those at the right position. They were also boosted by the fitness of Virat Kohli and the return of Josh Hazlewood into the playing eleven for Jacob Duffy.

Mitchell Marsh nails 102-m six against RCB in IPL 2026

Even on a good surface, the batters need to hold the shape and use the power to nail the big shots around the park. But both the opening batters of the Super Giants, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, struggled to get the bat on the ball. But the Australia T20I captain released the pressure with a massive shot.

It was the final delivery of the third over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He dragged the length ball as Marsh stayed on his crease and had enough time to hang back and launch it over the deep mid-wicket region. The connection was so sweet that the ball went over the roof for a massive 102-meter six.

Watch the video here:

Markram joined Marsh at the party on the very next over. This time, the ball was on the length from Rasikh Salam as the right-handed batter was quick to pick it and timed it through the line over the long-on region for another six.

However, the bowler had his revenge as he sent back the Protea batter on the last ball of the over for 12 runs. Markram closed his bat face early while he looked to flick it through as the ball ballooned in the air before the cover fielder grabbed a simple catch.

LSG under early pressure after Rishabh Pant’s injury

Apart from the wicket, Lucknow also saw their captain, Rishabh Pant, getting back to the hut after he injured himself. It was a short ball from Hazlewood as Pant, trying to smash it, got hit on the arm. The medical treatment wasn’t enough to get him back to full fitness.

Nicholas Pooran came at number four, but he was also short of runs, and that was quite evident in his batting as Lucknow didn’t get the expected start inside the powerplay.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): LSG- 60/2 (M Marsh 37*, Josh Hazlewood 1/10) vs RCB.
