Will Rohit Sharma play MI vs PBKS clash in IPL 2026? Latest fitness update revealed
The recent reports revealed Rohit Sharma's current fitness update as questions have raised whether the former Mumbai Indians captain will play the IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings.

The Mumbai Indians, despite starting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on a winning note against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, has gone downhill since then with three successive defeats to find themselves at the penultimate position among the ten teams with two points in four clashes.
The Hardik Pandya-led side experienced defeats against Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), as questions have been raised on their bowling performance, which has struggled to find rhythm in this competition. Their premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, is yet to pick a single wicket in this event.
Rohit Sharma unlikely to play MI vs PBKS clash in IPL 2026
During the 241-run chase in their allotted 20 overs of the innings, Mumbai needed a strong start from their opening pair of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma. The former was excellent from the very first over before the Nagpur-born joined the party as he used his feet to deposit Jacob Duffy into the stands for a massive six.
But there was a moment when Rohit tried to complete a single and hobbled in the middle. He seemed to be pulling his hamstring which caused him in running between the wickets. The veteran went through the medical treatment and tried to play one delivery after that.
However, he wasn’t happy with the situation and decided to be retired out as their number three batter, Suryakumar Yadav, made his way into the middle. The Mumbai batter didn’t come back later and finished with 19* off 13 balls.
Later, it was informed that the World Cup-winning captain went through a scan which confirmed the injury. Two days before their next fixture against the Punjab side at the Wankhede Stadium, he wasn’t present in the ground.
On the eve of the game, it has been reported that he won’t be part of their next game. The depth of injury would later reveal how many games he would miss for the rest of the competition.
MI prepare to face PBKS without Rohit Sharma
Even if Rohit gets 60-70% fitness, he could be part of the playing eleven as the impact sub, but will Mumbai take the chance? They can try Tilak Varma as the opening batter and bring Robin Minz in the middle order to try something different.
Hardik, during the previous presentation after the lose against RCB, hinted that they would be trying different combinations and may change their planning heading into the next game. Punjab, meanwhile, stand at the second position with three wins in four clashes, including one washed-out affair.
