It will be the battle between the inaugural MLC champions (MI New York won the MLC 2023) and the defending MLC champions (Washington Freedom won the MLC 2024).
It will be their third meeting in the MLC 2025. Washington Freedom won both their league stage meetings this season by two wickets (with four balls remaining) and six wickets (with 18 balls remaining) after successfully chasing 189 and 113-run targets, respectively.

In the Eliminator, they beat the third-placed San Francisco Unicorns by two wickets after successfully chasing the 132-run target in a thriller. Qualifying for the Challenger, they beat the Qualifier losers Texas Super Kings by seven wickets (chasing the 167-run target) to ultimately advance to the Final.
