After two and a half poor performances with the bat and ball during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and experiencing successive defeats, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) came up with a better all-round performance against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Batting first, they posted a strong score of 181 runs on the board, which challenged the Rishabh Pant-led side, who found themselves in trouble on a surface that slowed down and made the batting hard against the short deliveries and two spinners of the home side, Anukul Roy and Sunil Narine.

Mukul Choudhary emulates MS Dhoni’s helicopter six vs KKR

By the time Mukul Choudhary walked into the middle, Lucknow was struggling on 127 runs for the loss of six wickets in 15 overs and needed something magical to turn the game from that position. After another good over by Narine, the pressure increased as they needed 54 runs in the last four overs.

After two dots to start the 17th over, Mukul went forward and pulled the short ball hard into the gap at the deep square leg to get the boundary. He backed it up with a helicopter six like MS Dhoni, which stunned the entire world.

Watch the video here:

It was full and into the stump as the right-handed batter went away from his leg stump, as he brought out the helicopter, and a free swing took the ball out of the fence. Later, he celebrated a six with another six.

The Rajasthan-born remained unbeaten on 54 runs in just 27 balls with a pair of boundaries and seven sixes at a strike rate of 200 to complete the chase on the last ball. It was a nervy yet special single on the last ball for them to win the contest.

Lucknow hand Kolkata its third defeat of IPL 2026

Heading into the last over of the game, Lucknow needed 14 runs off the last over. It was a peculiar field set-up from Rahane, who was forced to keep four fielders outside the 30-yard circle due to the slow over rate. However, all the fielders were at the edge of the ring, which allowed Avesh Khan to give the strike back to Mukul.

Vaibhav Arora, given the onus to bowl the over under pressure, executed the third and fourth deliveries with wide yorkers. But he missed the mark on the penultimate ball and traveled for a six to shatter the dreams of the Knight Riders.

Brief Scores: LSG 182/7 (M Choudhary 54*, Ayush Badoni 54, A Roy 2/32) beat KKR 181/4 (A Raghuvanshi 45, D Rathi 1/25) by three-wickets.
