The Mumbai Indians (MI) have found themselves in massive trouble as they faced their third successive defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at their home venue, the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, when they failed to complete the 241-run chase by 18 runs.
The Hardik Pandya-led side had also experienced defeats against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) despite making a clinical beginning to the campaign with a strong victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders. But their bowling performance has gone down since then.
Rohit Sharma’s fitness concern raises alarm for Mumbai Indians
During the 241-run chase against RCB, Mumbai faced another issue when their veteran opener and former captain, Rohit Sharma, left the field after being retired hurt due to a hamstring injury. He used his feet to deposit Jacob Duffy into the stands for a massive six, but there was a tight single when he pulled in the middle.
After a little medical attention, the right-handed batter played a defensive shot and looked in pain. He called the next batter, Suryakumar Yadav, into the crease and went back to the dressing room. He went through the scans to understand the condition of the hamstring as his availability ahead of their next clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 16 remains under clouds.
There is no immediate communication on the matter except the confirmation that Rohit has picked up the hamstring issue. His team-mate, Sherfane Rutheford, was unsure of the injury’s depth during the post-match press conference.
