New Zealand won their third consecutive match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. They defeated Bangladesh to win the match by 8 wickets with 43 balls remaining.

After a shaky start, Bangladesh found saviours in Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. Batting first, Bangladesh started by losing the first wicket with 0 on board. They lost their next three batters in quick succession before Shakib and Mushfiqur took the charge. They stitched together 96 runs to rebuild the Bangladesh innings. While Shakib scored 40 off 51, Mushfiqur added 66 off 75. Later Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 49-ball 41 and Bangladesh eventually scored 245/9. Lockie Ferguson took 3-49 as Trent Boult and Matt Henry took 2 each.

In response, New Zealand lost their star batter Rachin Ravindra for just 9 but Devon Conway continued. He missed his half-century by just five runs while Kane Williamson and Daryll Mitchell took the side home. Williamson was retired hurt for 78 after being hit on the thumb. Player of the Match

Lockie Ferguson was the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling spell. During the post-match session, he said, “It was a good team effort. Created pressure throughout, meant that I could do my role really. Compared to Hyderabad this had more bounce. I tried to test it out early with newer ball. But it was a good all-round performance by the boys. It’s early stages, but it’s certainly nice three wins. But a long way to go. [on experience in India] Yeah it’s nice, haven’t played here before though, so nice to see a bit of pace on the wicket, we have Afghanistan next so hope to see a similar wicket.”
