It was a memorable encounter with the West Indies when Team India played their first-ever match on American soil. On a flat, batting-friendly surface, runs were flowing like a devastating flood.

A total of 489 runs were scored in that T20I match, which is still considered a record to date. Another record is that a staggering number of 32 sixes were smashed in the match. The jaw-dropping scorelines were well accompanied by the highly thrilling nature of the rivalry. India lost by only 1 run while chasing a target of 246. On August 27, 2016, at Lauderhill, West Indies, batting first, scored 245/6, and India, batting second, got 244/4 in 20 overs.

Dwayne Bravo proved cooler when he dismissed MS Dhoni on the very last delivery of the game and snatched the victory from the jaws of the Men in Blue. Assuming Dhoni would look for the safe single to tie the game, Bravo delivered a slow dipping off-cutter, and Dhoni caught on to the trap. As Bravo read before, the skipper of India tried to push the ball on the offside but got only an edge, which directly went to the short third man.

The difference was very thin

Evin Lewis, man of the match, who was playing his second only match for West Indies, scored 100 runs in 48 balls, while KL Rahul completed his century in 46 deliveries, faster than Lewis. Johnson Charles, opening half of Evin, scored 79 off 33. On the other side, despite losing Ajinkya Rahane's wickets early, Rohit Sharma was in great touch, scoring 62 off 28.

Multiple power hitters from both teams, like Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Carlos Brathwaite, and Virat Kohli, could not do much in the match. But every single contribution proved priceless when only 1 run separated both teams, with the West Indies as the winner. MS Dhoni, who was never so expressive on the field, had disappointment reflected in his body language.
