'I hope he is treated with dignity' — Pat Cummins joins 22 cricketers in seeking proper medical care for Pakistan legend Imran Khan

Australia captain Pat Cummins has joined 22 former international cricket captains in calling for proper medical care and humane treatment for former Pakistan captain and Prime Minister Imran Khan. Reacting to a video shared by Greg Chappell about Khan's condition, Cummins wrote, “I hope Imran Khan is treated with the dignity anyone deserves.”

The 22 former captains have renewed their appeal to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for better and more humane treatment of Imran Khan. The latest letter comes six months after a similar appeal, with seven more former captains joining the request.

The former captains have raised concerns about Khan's health and called for appropriate medical treatment. Pat Cummins is the latest addition to the list and has become the only active international captain to support the appeal.

Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan's Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, has been in prison since 2023 after facing several legal cases. He has received prison sentences in corruption-related cases, which he has strongly denied.

Reacting to Chappell's video, Australia captain Pat Cummins expressed his support for the former international captains and called for Khan's court-ordered medical assessment to continue. He also urged that family visits should continue and said Imran Khan should be treated with the dignity anyone deserves.

Twenty-two former international cricket captains have once again written to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, seeking proper medical treatment and better welfare for Imran Khan. Three former Indian cricket team captains are also among the signatories of the letter.

The former cricketers had first written to the Pakistan government in February this year. The latest appeal comes amid concerns that the recent medical process involving Imran Khan may not have fully followed the directions issued by Pakistan's Supreme Court.

The 22 former international captains who signed the letter include Michael Atherton, Alex Blackwell, Allan Border, Michael Brearley, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, Alastair Cook, Sunil Gavaskar, Lee Germon, Adam Gilchrist, David Gower, Kim Hughes, Nasser Hussain, Clive Lloyd, Kapil Dev Nikhanj, Arjuna Ranatunga, Andrew Strauss, Dilip Vengsarkar, Stephen Waugh and John Wright. Pat Cummins is the latest addition to the appeal.

The former captains raised concerns about Imran Khan's short hospital stay and said he was examined by a state-appointed medical team instead of the medical board ordered by the court. They also noted that Khan was declared medically fit and sent back to Adiala Jail before the court-ordered board could complete its assessment. The letter also welcomed the court's decision to restore weekly family visits.

The former captains made three key requests. They called for the court-directed medical board, including Khan's personal doctors, to complete an independent assessment, particularly regarding his reported loss of vision in his right eye. They also urged authorities to allow weekly family visits without delays and provide any treatment recommended by the medical board without delay.
