PBKS IPL 2026 playoffs qualification scenario — Can Punjab Kings still make it to the Top 4?

Punjab Kings have kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive after a crucial win over Lucknow Super Giants in their final league match. After a brilliant start to the season, PBKS struggled badly in the second half and lost six matches in a row. However, Shreyas Iyer’s side finally bounced back at the right time and are still fighting for a playoff place. 

The race for the final IPL 2026 playoff spot is now between Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. While Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad have already qualified, only one place is still available in the top four. 

Where Does Punjab Kings Stand in IPL 2026 Points Table — Current Form, Net Run Rate and Remaining Matches

Punjab Kings are currently in the playoff race with 15 points and stand in 4th place after defeating Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets. Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer played a match-winning unbeaten century to help PBKS end their six-match losing streak.

Before the LSG match, Punjab Kings were in a dangerous situation after losing momentum in the second half of the tournament. Despite remaining unbeaten in their first seven matches, PBKS dropped important points later in the season and slipped in the standings.

Punjab now have no league matches left, which means their qualification depends on the remaining matches involving Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals. Their positive net run rate could become very important if two teams finish with the same number of points.

What Must Happen for PBKS to Qualify for IPL 2026 Playoffs — Full Qualification Scenario Explained

The first part of Punjab Kings job is already done because they defeated Lucknow Super Giants and moved to 15 points. But their qualification is still not confirmed.

Punjab Kings now need Rajasthan Royals to lose against Mumbai Indians. If Rajasthan Royals win that match, RR will move to 16 points and qualify ahead of PBKS, which would eliminate Punjab from IPL 2026.

PBKS will also closely watch the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals match. Punjab will want the Delhi Capitals to win because a KKR win could create a net run rate battle for the final playoff position.  Even if KKR defeat DC, they will still need a very big victory margin to overtake Punjab Kings on net run rate and move ahead in the IPL 2026 points table.

If Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals lose to Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings can easily qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
