Legendary India batteVirat Kohli congratulated Team India for winning the T20 World Cup 2026 after beating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final on Sunday, March 8 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India produced a strong batting performance and scored 255/5, the highest total in a T20 World Cup final. Sanju Samson led the innings with 89 runs, while Abhishek Sharma scored 52 and Ishan Kishan added a quick 54 runs. Samson and Abhishek also built a fast 98-run opening partnership, putting early pressure on New Zealand.

After the win, many fans and former players praised the team on social media. Virat Kohli also shared a message on X, applauding the team’s performance and spirit throughout the tournament.

“Champions. Phenomenal win for Team India in Ahmedabad. There was no match for the explosive cricket we played during the tournament. The team showed great character in difficult moments and became world champions again. Congratulations to all the players and the support staff for this achievement. Jai Hind,” Kohli wrote.

Cricket fraternity praises Team India after historic T20 World Cup Win

Virat Kohli was part of India’s last T20 World Cup win in 2024. In that final against South Africa national cricket team in Barbados, Kohli played a match-winning innings of 76 runs from 59 balls and was named Player of the Match. After that tournament, he retired from T20 internationals along with Rohit Sharma.

In the 2026 final, Jasprit Bumrah delivered an excellent bowling performance and was named Player of the Match for taking four wickets. He also finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets, sharing the spot with Varun Chakravarthy.

Sanju Samson was awarded Player of the Tournament. He scored his third straight half-century in the competition. Samson ended the tournament as the third-highest run scorer, making 321 runs in five innings with an average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.37.

Apart from Kohli, India’s Test captain Shubman Gill also praised the team for defending the T20 World Cup title.

“So proud of our team. Winning a World Cup for India is a dream, and you have made the whole nation proud. Congratulations boys,” Gill wrote.
