Watch: Phil Salt smashes Mitchell Santner for three successive sixes during MI vs RCB clash in IPL 2026
Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener, Phil Salt, smashed the Mumbai Indians' left-arm spinner, Mitchell Santner, for three successive sixes during the Indian Premier League 2026 clash.

Phil Salt, who was bounced out during the previous contest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, was in a different mood in the encounter between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium as both sides came into the fixture on the back of their respective defeats.
On a surface where the home captain, Hardik Pandya, won the toss and decided to bowl first, keeping the dew in mind, it was vital for Bengaluru to get 20-25 runs extra for the bowlers heading into the death overs of the second innings.

Apart from the over against Jasprit Bumrah, which went on 10 runs, Phil Salt didn’t bend down against any of the bowlers in the first innings and seemed to have only one plan to break it into two halves. Quite surprisingly, the home captain introduced Mitchell Santner into the attack.

The first ball was dragged short on the surface and down the leg side as Salt rocked back on the pull to get enough on the ball and put it into the stands for the first six of the over. The New Zealand T20I captain was a tad full on the second ball, to which the England batter got his left leg out of the way and swept it high over the wide long-on for an 89-meter six.
Santner again went short at Salt, who spotted the length, went into his backfoot and hammered it for another six. For the fourth delivery, the left-arm spinner was slow in the air and away from the arc of the right-handed batter, who, however, was prepared for the tactic and swept it past the mid-on region for a boundary.
RCB aim 250+ with powerful contribution from top order
Salt went on to celebrate half-century in the blink of an eye and finished with 78 runs in just 36 balls at a strike rate of 216.67, thanks to six boundaries and as many over boundaries. Virat Kohli, despite the good start, slowed down a lot in the middle overs.

But the RCB side got the lift from their captain, Rajat Patidar, who raced away to 46 runs in 13 balls with the help of three boundaries and five sixes as the visitors made their way to 183 for the loss of one wicket in 14 overs.
Brief Scores (at the time of writing): RCB- 195/3 (Phil Salt 78, Hardik Pandya 1/23) vs MI.
