Piyush Chawla opens up about his relationship with Virat Kohli

Former Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla recently opened up about his present relationship with former Indian captain Virat Kohli. 

Another former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra recently spoke about his relationship with Virat Kohli. Mishra had claimed that Kohli had changed a lot and had almost stopped talking

Mishra said on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, “I have seen Virat change a lot. We had almost stopped talking. When you get fame and power, they think people are reaching out to them for a purpose. I was never one of those. I have known Cheeku since the time he was 14 when he used to eat Samosas, and when he needed Pizza every night." 

Amit Mishra and Virat Kohli have together played in 51 international matches for India from 2009 to 2017.

However, Piyush Chawla has a completely different view of Kohli. Chawla claimed that the former Indian captain still had the same relationship with him from a decade or more ago. 

In the 2Sloggers Podcast, Chawla said, “Virat Kohli is still the same as me as he was 10-15 years before. My experience with him is always good, and I share a great camaraderie."

Speaking about his present relationship with Kohli, Chawla gave a recent example. During the Asia Cup 2023, which was jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Kohli had familiar conversations with the commentator Chawla.  

Chawla added, “In fact, when I was doing commentary during the Asia Cup 2023 and I was standing on the boundary, and Virat was fielding there, he came to me and said, ‘PC, let's order something good.' Because we were both fond of eating. So, even today, there are similar discussions that used to happen 10-15 years ago. It has been a very good experience with me." 

Kohli and Chawla have played together for India in ten international matches between 2010 and 2012. However, apart from Team India, Chawla and Kohli played together in junior cricket. 

After winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, where Kohli won the Player of the Match award in the Final, Kohli also participated in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against the hosts Sri Lanka.

Kohli is now on a break. He will also not take part in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. Before the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy (five-match Test series) in Australia, India will play the home Test series against Bangladesh (a two-match Test series and also a three-match T20I series) and New Zealand (a three-match Test series).
