PSL 2025 likely to clash with IPL 2025 : Report

In the era of T20 leagues’ dominance, none of the leagues dream of clashing with the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the Pakistan Super League 2025 (PSL 2025) is expected to clash with the IPL 2025 due to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

PSL has generally been organised between February and mid-March. Meanwhile, IPL normally runs from late March to late May. However, the return of the ICC Champions Trophy will disrupt the PSL's regular schedule.

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to return in 2025. Pakistan has the hosting rights for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played between mid-February and early March. This ODI-format ICC tournament will be Pakistan’s first ICC tournament since the World Cup 1996.

Although the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is confident in successfully hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian cricket team’s doubtful participation is a major concern. However, it is not the only major problem for the PCB.

Due to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, PSL 2025 has been forced to shift its regular calendar. According to recent reports from CricTracker, PSL 2025 is likely to begin on April 10, and it may run until May 25. Due to international commitments, PCB can’t even shift the PSL 2025 to an earlier calendar.

As IPL 2025 is likely to maintain its regular calendar, we are likely going to see a clash between IPL and PSL in the next year.

While the IPL has been shining for a long time, the PSL has been struggling in recent years, especially with its failure to attract most of the top foreign cricketers. During the PSL 2024, legendary Caribbean all-rounder Kieron Pollard even chose Anant Ambani’s pre-wedding celebration over the cricket tournament, which was an embarrassment for the PSL.
