The cricketing world has been in awe of the sensational 15-year-old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and his dominance over world-class bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for the Rajasthan Royals. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) team owner, Javed Afridi, has also expressed his admiration for the teenager.

During the IPL 2026 Eliminator against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in New Chandigarh, Sooryavanshi nearly broke the record for the fastest-ever IPL century of Chris Gayle when he was dismissed for 97 runs off 29 balls, thanks to five boundaries and 12 over boundaries at a strike rate of 334.48.

Which PSL owner said this — And what exactly did he see from the 15-year-old that left him speechless?

The Pakistani businessman, Javed Afridi, who owns Pakistan Super League (PSL) side Peshawar Zalmi, used his social media to laud Sooryavanshi’s massive achievement at just 15 in the best franchise event in the universe.

“Man, I'm truly blown away by 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 97 runs of pure brilliance! The way he played was total edge-of-the-seat stuff. Talent like this at such a young age is so rare and special. Massive respect and love, kid. You're a future superstar in the making! Keep rising.” Afridi said of the Rajasthan Royals' batter on social media.

“That's exactly why leagues like our PSL are so important that we need to create more platforms so our Pakistan boys get the same chance to showcase their talent & light up the world just like Vaibhav.” The PSL owner noted.

From a 97 off 29 balls in the Eliminator to global recognition — Sooryavanshi is no longer just an IPL sensation

Sooryavanshi smashed 252 runs in his very first season of the IPL out of seven innings at a strike rate of 206.55. He bettered that innings and is currently the leading run-getter of the IPL 2026 before the second qualifier for 680 runs in 15 innings at an average of 45.33 and a blistering strike rate of 242.85, thanks to four fifties and one century.

The Bihar-born has smashed 65 sixes in one IPL season, which has broken the record of Gayle’s 59 sixes in one edition of the 20-over event. RR will hope to see the same aggressive approach from him in the rest of the season and beyond.

Without a doubt, Vaibhav is already the most talked-about teenager in world cricket. With 1381 runs in 33 innings at a strike rate of 221.66, thanks to four centuries and five half-centuries, he has already reached the peak of his career at such a young age.

The India opener has been picked for their A-squad to face Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in a tri-series. However, there is a possibility of him being part of the national T20I squad during their T20I series in Ireland and England.
