Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks Yashasvi Jaiswal's uncapped-player runs record with 680 runs in IPL 2026
During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Eliminator in New Chandigarh, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke the shocking record of the tournament history.

There was hardly any record that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi didn’t break during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Eliminator between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
The left-handed opening batter smashed 97 runs off just 29 balls to set the stage for the franchise, posting 243 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The youngster’s knock was decorated with five boundaries and 12 sixes as he made everyone stand on their feet to applaud the innings.
680 Runs in a single season — Sooryavanshi demolishes Yashasvi Jaiswal's record
Sooryavanshi, due to the knock, surpassed the 652 runs of Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan and became the leading run-getter of the IPL 2026. He now has collected 680 runs in 15 innings at an average of 45.33 and a blistering strike rate of 242.85, thanks to four half-centuries and one century at the best score of 103 runs against the Sunrisers.
At the end of the fourth over of the IPL 2026 Eliminator, he was unbeaten on 54 runs off 16 balls. However, even before celebrating a 16-ball fifty, he entered the record book by becoming the uncapped player with the most runs in a single IPL edition.
The Rajasthan Royals batter needed 44 runs to surpass Yashasvi Jaiswal’s tally of 626 runs for the Royals during the IPL 2023. And the Bihar-born took only 15 balls to achieve the milestone in the eliminator.

In the list of the uncapped players with the most runs of a single IPL edition, Vaibhav and Jaiswal are followed by the former Australian star batter, Shaun Marsh, who collected 616 runs in 11 games for the Punjab Kings during the IPL 2008.

With the 12 sixes in the IPL 2026 Eliminator against the Pat Cummins-led side, Sooryavanshi became the leading six-hitter in a single season of the IPL. He has clubbed 65 over boundaries at a 4.3 rate of ball/six, which has overtaken Chris Gayle’s 59 over boundaries in 2012 at a ball per boundary of 7.7.
This is the fourth time India's Sooryavanshi has hit 10+ sixes in an IPL innings, which is the joint most with Chris Gayle. He now has smashed 490 runs inside the powerplay of the IPL 2026, which is the most during the first six overs of an IPL edition, going past David Warner’s 467 runs in 2016.

The southpaw smacked the fifty off just 16 balls, which is the joint best with Suresh Raina in the history of the IPL knockouts or the Playoffs.
The Royals, thanks to a 47-run victory, have progressed to the second qualifier of IPL 2026, where they will face the Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 29 in New Chandigarh. The winner of the game will meet the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on May 31.
