Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Eliminator, Pat Cummins spoke about keeping three different plans to tackle Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. However, he hardly expected the 15-year-old would smash him for three successive sixes in New Chandigarh to set the stage on fire.

Cummins started well to keep the two opening batters of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) calm before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed the right-arm pacer for a massive six over the long-off region to show what was to come for the first hour of the innings.

How did Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit three sixes in a row off Pat Cummins in the IPL 2026 Eliminator? 

On the second delivery of the third over, Pat Cummins went for a pitched-up delivery which was creamed into the long-off region for a boundary by the southpaw, who crossed the 600-run mark in the ongoing season at a strike rate of around 230.

The third ball was full and in the slot to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who kept his head still and picked the length to loft it through the line over the long-on for a six. He continued the onslaught with another over boundary over the third man region as the ball sailed into the stands.

The fifth delivery of the over was a slower one away from the reach of the batter by Cummins. But the Bihar-born hanged back and picked up the pace and drilled it down the ground for a huge six. That over was a small reflection of what was to come.

India's Sooryavanshi was on 97 runs off 28 balls when he needed to score three runs on the next delivery to break the record of the fastest IPL century, set by Chris Gayle, more than a decade ago. But he was dismissed on that score at a strike rate of 334.48, thanks to five boundaries and 12 sixes. 

The southpaw has now clubbed 65 sixes in this IPL 2026, which easily overtakes Gayle’s record of 59 sixes in 2012, which was the most in a single edition of the tournament. Sooryavanshi’s 16-ball fifty was also the fastest by a batter in the IPL playoffs.

Rajasthan finished with 243/8 in their allotted 20 overs, which is now the second-highest score of the IPL knockouts, just under 254/5 by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first qualifier of the ongoing season.
