Vaibhav Sooryavanshi already showed his ultra-aggressive batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. But the question was whether he could display the same ability and power under pressure, and he proved it during the IPL 2026 Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium, Mullanpur, in New Chandigarh. 

Rajasthan Royals' Sooryavanshi ended up with 97 runs in just 29 balls at a strike rate of 334.48, thanks to 12 sixes and five boundaries as he set the platform for the opening partnership of 125 runs in eight overs with Yashasvi Jaiswal as they finished with 243/8 in their allotted 20 overs. 

From Cummins to Sakib — Every six Sooryavanshi hits in the Eliminator, broken down ball by ball

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened his account of sixes against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain, Pat Cummins, over the long-off region before pulling the short ball from Eshan Malinga into the stands over the backward square leg to end the second over.

The 15-year-old clubbed Cummins for a hat-trick of sixes in the third over of the innings, out of which the best one was when he picked the slower delivery and nailed it back past the bowler. The onslaught continued with three more sixes off his bat against Sakib Hussain in the fourth over.

After a couple of overs of no sixes, which was quite rare in the evening, Sooryavanshi nailed Sakib Praful Hinge into the stands. The latter was smacked for three sixes and two boundaries in the eighth over before he failed to get a sweet connection and got caught at third man.

India's Sooryavanshi, who is now the leading run-getter with 680 runs in the IPL 2026 at a strike rate of more than 240, has powered 490 runs inside the powerplay of this IPL, which is by far the most in any season, overtaking 467 runs from David Warner in 2016. It was the fourth time the Bihar-born has hit 10+ sixes in an IPL innings.

“I wasn’t really thinking about it like that, but I played that shot after looking at the fielder, and that’s why I mistimed it. If I had gone towards the third man, it would have cleared easily.” The left-handed batter expressed after the first innings.
