For Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to continue their unbeaten run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign against the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, the defending champions needed a strong start from their former captain and the best batter of the event, Virat Kohli. 

Kohli started the season with a fine unbeaten knock of 69 runs during their successful chase against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In the last game against the Chennai Super Kings at home, he got a decent start but failed to capitalize on it.

Virat Kohli had a lucky start in the clash as he got an outside edge into the vacant region between the wicket-keeper and second slip against Jofra Archer. Nandre Burger, even, cut him half where his inside edge rolled on the left side of the keeper for a boundary.

In between those, the Delhi-born was excellent in finding the gaps and timing the pace of the bowlers around the park. He moved to 32 runs in 15 balls, and it was important for the Royals to send back the right-handed batter into the dressing room.

Ravi Bishnoi was introduced into the attack and made an impact on his very first over, caging the ‘big fish.’ Kohli didn’t look comfortable at all in the middle despite getting the runs. He went for the lofted shot and missed to read the googly as the ball sneaked past his bat and went through the bat-pad gap to break the stumps.

It was the second dismissal for Bishnoi against the former Indian captain, who has replied with 37 runs in 44 balls in seven innings of the face-off.

RR continues to pick regular wickets of RCB

RCB raced away to 58 runs in five overs but lost three wickets, which broke their momentum after the power play. After losing Phil Salt for a golden duck, they somehow settled their nerves, but with the wicket of Kohli, they would miss an anchor in the middle.

Bishnoi also sent back Krunal Pandya, who used his feet and found the fielder at the long-on region.
