Ravi Shastri and Michael Vaughan criticized England’s performance, saying they need to improve in subcontinent conditions.

Afghanistan won a thrilling win over England in Lahore on Wednesday, Their Champions Trophy hopes are alive for Afghanistan after winning with England. England started well with their bowling, and Afghanistan was 37/3 after that, Ibrahim Zadran played a very brilliant innings 177 off 146 balls, smashing 12 fours and six sixes. Afghanistan put up a strong total of 325/7. England fought hard, with Joe Root scoring a century, but Afghan bowlers kept taking wickets, making the chase tough. This was England’s fifth loss since their India tour, their sixth overall, and it knocked them out of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri praised Afghanistan after their win over England, writing on social media, “Afghanistan, you guys were amazing! Kammaaal Kaardi! As for England, you need to take playing in the subcontinent seriously no excuses. Only then will you be known as a team that can perform anywhere. #AFGvENG #ChampionsTrophy2025.”

England players in white-ball cricket have been struggling since they won the T20 World Cup in 2022. They couldn’t get past the league stage in either the 2023 ODI World Cup or last year’s T20 World Cup.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also Said that on X, saying, “Afghanistan fully deserved this win brilliant performance! England just haven’t been good enough in white-ball cricket for the last couple of years. This result isn’t a surprise in these conditions.”
