Bazball might be on its way out, but Birmingham witnessed the birth of a new phenomenon during two hours of complete chaos at Edgbaston. Pakistan’s 21-year-old Test debutant Razaullah produced a stunning counter-attacking innings, smashing 81 runs off just 63 balls after coming in at No. 9.

England looked on course to complete a series sweep of Pakistan inside three days in the final Test. However, Razaullah had other plans. He attacked the England bowlers without fear, hitting four fours and nine sixes to completely change the course of the match.

Razaullah’s nine sixes also saw him equal Tim Southee’s record for the most sixes by a batter on Test debut. He also found an unlikely partner in Mohammad Abbas, who scored 42 off 67 balls. Together, the pair added 121 runs for the ninth wicket and helped Pakistan turn a possible innings defeat into a competitive second innings.

Razaullah was born on April 5, 2005, in Mardan and began his cricket journey by representing Mardan in the district U-19 competition in 2023. He later played at the regional youth level for Abbottabad before being picked by Sahir Associates for the 2024-25 President’s Trophy Grade II tournament. He helped his team win the title and qualify for the first-class competition. During the tournament, he also scored his maiden first-class century, making 100 off 95 balls as an opening batter during a follow-on.

The 21 year old talent later represented Peshawar as a guest player in the 2025-26 Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, where he scored a century and a fifty in one of the matches. He also impressed with the ball in the 2025-26 President’s Trophy, taking 30 wickets in five matches for Sahir Associates. His performances eventually earned him a chance in the Pakistan Super League, where he made his PSL debut for Rawalpindi earlier this year and took three wickets in two matches.

Razaullah was one of three Pakistan players making their Test debuts at Edgbaston, alongside Ghazi Ghori and Mohammad Imran. Their call-ups came after the Pakistan Cricket Board released seven players following the team’s 194-run defeat to England in the second Test. Before joining the England tour, Razaullah’s most recent appearance came for Pakistan Gold against Pakistan Green in a 50-over match on August 18.
