On the evening of September 05 in Dubai, the Indian cricket team, under the observation of captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir, went through their first practice session under the floodlights. Starting from running and stretching, the focus shifted to their respective batting and bowling departments in the nets as they aim to finalize the best playing eleven.

The Revsportz reports revealed that at the ICC Academy, after a couple of minutes of huddle where Suryakumar Yadav was leading the charge, the attention shifted to fitness tests, running drills, and others. It was a different drill session from what they went through against England in last month’s Test series.

Hardik Pandya spent 30 minutes with the bat in the nets. There were so many bowlers in the practice session. Jasprit Bumrah, the premier Indian pacer, fresh from the injury and the Test series, bowled for nearly an hour before the left-arm pacer, Arshdeep Singh, joined him and bowled for the same duration to the batters in the nets.

Harshit Rana also went through a lot of bowling in the nets. The ICC Academy provided the Indian team with three left-arm spinners, who bowled at the batters. There were also multiple pacers, and they looked in good pace. It is a familiar scenario for the Blue Brigade, who spent a long time in this city during their winning campaign of the Champions Trophy 2025, as Virat Kohli appreciated a net bowler.

Later, it was fielding drills. Shubman Gill was part of it. Apart from him, it was Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shivam Dube who were part of the catching drills. It was a complete package on the opening practice session. The dew factor hasn’t been as effective as per the Revsportz reports.

Looking at how Sanju Samson was giving Jitesh Sharma catching practice, it seemed like the latter is expected to get a chance in the playing eleven ahead of the Kerala batter. Their opening game will be on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium against the United Arab Emirates.
