Reports: Management quashes idea of dropping Tilak Varma to accommodate Shubman Gill

The India squad for the Asia Cup 2025 is yet to be announced, but there are lots of permutations and combinations running around the rumor mills. Several players whose names were not into contention are being named, whereas some of the them who have stuck to the T20 format over the years to come main certain in the team.

One such rumour which was doing the rounds is that of Shubman Gill’s inclusion in the squad. It is worth noting that, Gill has not played a T20I since July 2024. According to India Express, there were ideas about including Gill into the squad and drop Tilak Varma. This accommodation process was not backed by the management and they ruled it unfair on the part of Tilak, who has done well in the format over the years.

India are placed in Group A

Indian team is placed in Group A of the tournament and they are placed alongside Pakistan, UAE and Hong Kong. After India Champions boycotted playing against Pakistan in the World Champions League 2025, it will be interesting to see what the Indian team comes up with as they play Pakistan on September 14 in the tournament.
