The former T20 World Cup-winning captain, Rohit Sharma, and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, have arrived in Ahmedabad just a few hours before the beginning of the T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The captain of the defending champions is the brand ambassador of the event and is expected to hand over the trophy.
Rohit Sharma was present at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during the home side’s semifinal clash against Mumbai, which they went on to win by a narrow margin of just seven runs, after putting 253 runs on the board in their allotted 20 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Meanwhile, the Nagpur-born was also present in the opening game of the competition for the blue brigade that took place at the same venue against the United States of America (USA) as they won the game, despite being in a critical situation at the start, losing four wickets inside the first six overs of the innings.

Rohit has been one of the biggest reasons for the Indian side’s change of mindset and approach with the bat as he led the side to an aggressive brand of cricket after their timid batting during the semifinal of the 2022 T20 World Cup against England at the Adelaide Oval, where the opposition completed the chase by 10 wickets.

India don’t have a great record playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium, having lost the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia besides coming at the wrong end of the game in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 against South Africa.
India has yet to beat New Zealand in the Men’s T20 World Cup history, with the grounds of Johannesburg, Nagpur, and Dubai being wet with the tears of the disappointed Indian fans. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side has the chance to repeat and write history in the ongoing season.
