The former West Indies captain and the Mumbai Indians’ all-rounder, Kieron Pollard, has picked his favorite captain of cricket. Many expected the veteran to go with his former captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Rohit Sharma, but he decided to select the former Indian World Cup-winning captain, MS Dhoni, as his favorite cricket captain.

Dhoni was later in action during the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings. The right-handed wicket-keeper batter nailed 196 runs in 13 innings. During a newly released video on News24Sports, Pollard revealed that despite not playing alongside Dhoni, he admired the Ranchi-born for his incredible tactics and approach on the field.

“Oo, best cricket captain. I’ve never played alongside him, but I’ve seen some of his tactics on the cricket field, and I really enjoyed MS Dhoni. I’ve really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed his captaincy from afar, playing against him, being in the middle, seeing his tactics, and stuff like that. I’ve enjoyed that. So, I’ll say, for me, MS Dhoni.” Pollard expressed during the interaction.

Dhoni is the joint-most successful captain of the IPL with Rohit, having earned five titles in the IPL. In 242 innings of the franchise T20 league, the experienced campaigner smacked 5439 runs at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45, thanks to 24 half-centuries at the best score of 84*. Pollard also shed light on his experience with Rohit.

“I’ve played Under-19 cricket with Sharma since then, and playing international cricket alongside and against, and playing underneath, I think he’s a fantastic, fantastic cricketer. The records that he has in one-day cricket, especially, are just phenomenal, and he has led us as our captain to five championship trophies as well.” Pollard revealed.

Dhoni is anticipated to be back for the CSK side in the 2026 season of the IPL, while Rohit has started practice for his return to the Indian cricket team for the upcoming three-match 50-over series against Australia down under. The Nagpur-born plans to keep himself fit for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup.
