Due to the hamstring injury from the previous clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Rohit Sharma was left out of the Mumbai Indians clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium. And as their captain, Hardik Pandya revealed, he was likely to be out of action for a couple of games.

The visiting captain, Shreyas Iyer, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which he reckoned was dry but would be better to chase later in the evening with the dew making its appearance. And once they got two back-to-back wickets in the third over, the decision proved to be right.

Rohit Sharma’s reaction breaks internet on Shreyas Iyer’s catch

Despite the two back-to-back wickets, Punjab lost track in the middle overs with the century of Quinton de Kock, who put up a strong partnership with Naman Dhir, who also brought up his half-century. Towards the death overs, it was Hardik, who walked into the middle and had the sole aim of nailing the big shots.

He launched the back-of-the-length delivery from the left-arm pacer, Marco Jansen, over the ropes for a massive six. On the very next delivery, he cut the pace and went wide of the right-handed batter, who created an issue for the batter.

Watch the video here:

Hardik reached for it and went straight down the ground, but didn’t get the elevation. Shreyas Iyer ran from the long-on region and leaped sideways to grab it with a reverse cup. He was airborne when he threw the ball up to Xavier Bartlett.

The momentum, while grabbing the ball, would have taken him over the ropes, for which he had to release the ball. He spotted Bartlett and lobbed it straight to him to complete the rest of the job. While Iyer was taking the catch, Rohit Sharma sat on the chair with Suryakumar Yadav, and their priceless reaction went viral.

Mumbai finished with 192 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets. Their opener, Quinton de Kock, remained unbeaten on 112 runs off 60 balls at a strike rate of 186.67, with the help of seven sixes and eight boundaries, while Dhir clubbed 50 runs in 31 balls.

Punjab lost two wickets inside the power play of the chase, besides scoring 61 runs. Both the wickets went to Allah Ghazanfar, who ended the powerplay with figures of 2/14 in two overs. Deepak Chahar was nailed for a 21-run opening over.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): PBKS 83/2 (Prabhsimran Singh 33*, A Ghazanfar 2/14) vs MI- 192/6 (Q de Kock 112*, Arshdeep Singh 3/22).
