"Brother run carefully" — Rohit Sharma reveals his mid-pitch conversations and strong bond with Virat Kohli

The two veterans, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have played for India together for nearly two decades and have earned massive success for the side with some memorable performances. During the ongoing three-match ODI series against West Indies, Rohit has reflected on his mid-pitch conversations and strong bond with Kohli.   

During the opening game at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Rohit got the start but failed to convert. Meanwhile, Kohli celebrated his 55th ODI century and remained unbeaten on 139 runs to complete the successful run chase against the Shai Hope-led side.

Rohit stated that his bond with Virat Kohli goes back to the old days. Besides disclosing their mid-pitch conversations, he reflected on how they have the same ultimate aim despite having different ways of batting. 

“We were together. This started, I think, when we were playing in Australia, or right after Australia when we came to India. That's when this started, and whenever this plays on TV, we look at each other and laugh. Both of us, we've almost started playing at the same time. I made my debut in 2007; he made his debut in 2008.” Rohit said on JioStar.

“And since then, we've been trying to give our best for the team. There's a strong camaraderie between the two of us, and we understand what it requires to be at a certain level when you're playing at this level. Methods are different, obviously, but that's how it should be; every individual is different.” The Indian star addressed.  

Rohit also noted this in his discussions with Kohli regarding the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. They have played together in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 editions of the tournament.

“For what he has done for the team, for this team, there is no question; there is no asking what he has done. It's there for everyone to see. And what he is going to do from here on now, I don't think anything has changed. He'll be the same Kohli that we know of: wants to come, prepare well, go get the runs, win games for Team India.” The Nagpur-born said.

“I'm pretty sure that everyone who is going to be part of the team understands the importance of a World Cup. And especially Kohli. I mean, the one who has played the most World Cups, I think in this team, it's him.” Rohit concluded.

In the opening ODI against West Indies, Rohit smashed a dashing knock of 32 runs off 35 balls at a strike rate of 91.43, thanks to a couple of boundaries and three sixes. He recorded a 74-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill in 12 overs to get a strong start against the Caribbean side.

Kohli has challenged himself to be aggressive at the start of his innings, and he continued the same approach in the evening, ending with an unbeaten knock of 139 runs off just 88 balls at a strike rate of 157.95, besides putting a stand of 151 runs for the second wicket with centurion Gill.

Now, both of them turn their focus to the second ODI of the series on September 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, while the third game will be on October 03 at the PCA International Stadium in New Chandigarh.
