Ahead of the high-stakes India vs Australia (IND vs AUS) ODI series, the relentless speculations about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's retirement from the One Day International format show no signs of stopping. As the white-ball series gets underway from October 19, star Australia batter Travis Head has weighed in on the ODI future of these two Indian cricket icons.

In a comparison between Virat and Rohit, Head placed Kohli ahead, calling him “probably the greatest white-ball player.” However, he quickly added that Rohit Sharma, who excels at opening the batting, is “not far behind.” Crucially, Head expressed strong confidence that both Indian legends will be able to make their way to the next ODI World Cup.

Both are white-ball greats. Probably Virat Kohli is the greatest white-ball player & Rohit Sharma is not far behind, opening the batting. I hold huge regard for what he has been able to do I think they both are going to play the 2027 World Cup. It will be great for the game," Head said just a couple of days before the beginning of the crucial ODI series.

Head's comments provide a significant boost to the ongoing debate over the future of Indian cricket's veterans in the 50-over format.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to retire soon?

Team India already started their preparations on the Aussie soil before the series. With the urge to fetch the best possible result, Men in Blue started their training on the same day they landed on the land of Kangaroos.

After taking some rest, the Indian cricket team initiated their practice. The highly anticipated India vs. Australia ODI series became more exciting due to the presence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

After their Champions Trophy 2025 triumph, this will be their first major international assignment with the national side. The former captains will play the 3-match ODI series against Australia under the newly assigned skipper, Shubman Gill.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also denied the rumors of Virat and Rohit's possible retirements after the Australia tour. Shukla said, "As far as this being their last series is concerned, it is nothing like that. We should never get involved in these things. It is up to the players when they will retire. To say this would be their last series is absolutely wrong."
