KL Rahul doesn’t have a great record in terms of their teams’ result during the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the same instance continued even in the 2026 season’s clash for the Delhi Capitals against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

In a chase of 243 runs on a surface that isn’t typically a belter, Delhi needed someone to stay at the crease longer, but not get dismissed at the wrong time. And that happened exactly with KL Rahul, who now has an average of 31.10 for his 622 runs in 20 innings at a strike rate of 143.32 in the 200+ chases of IPL.

KL Rahul dismissed unluckily on 37 during SRH vs DC clash

It was not a fluent knock from the right-handed opening batter, whose first big shot of the evening was a six. He used his wrist to flick the full delivery outside the off stump against Nitish Reddy for a six as the ball sailed over the deep mid-wicket region. On the very next delivery, he went over the long-on fielder for a huge four.

He was dropped on the third ball of the fifth delivery before putting salt to the wound with a huge six. It was a pitched-up delivery on the middle as the Karnataka-born picked it and lofted it straight through the line straight down the ground for a maximum.

But Sakib Hussain took the revenge, sending back the batter on 37, which came on the back of one boundary and three sixes. It was a full toss on the pads with the ball having the chance to nail it anywhere in the park.

But instead of that, Rahul miscued the heave and picked up the fielder at the deep backward square. Just when he started to up the tempo, he was dismissed as the partnership was broken.

DC lose momentum with three quick wickets

Apart from the wicket of Rahul, Delhi also lost two wickets in the very next over of Malinga. Rana found the fielder after not getting the expected elevation on the shot, while David Miller’s inside edge hit the middle stump for him to get back to the hut for a golden duck.

Delhi hoped to see Sameer Rizvi come good, having been on 32 runs off 19 balls. They reached 155/4 after 15 overs, with the required run rate getting over 18.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): DC 192/7 (Nitish Rana 57, Eshan Malinga 4/32) vs SRH 242/2 (Abhishek Sharma 135*, Axar Patel 1/23)
