Shaheen Afridi in Pakistan’s pink kit celebrates with teammates after dismissing Tom Banton for his 150th ODI wicket in the PAK vs ENG Tri-Series 2026

During the tri-series 2026 clash between Pakistan and England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the home captain and the left-arm pacer, Shaheen Afridi, celebrated his 150th wicket in the ODI format with the dismissal of the opponent opener, Tom Banton, during the very first over of the innings.

Pakistan won the toss, and unlike the last two games, they decided to bowl first on this surface, expecting the dew to come and make it easier for them in the chase under the lights. They made two changes in the playing XI by bringing Shadab Khan and Razaullah, replacing Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah.

On the second delivery of the innings, Shaheen went into the middle and leg stump of Tom Banton, who leaned forward and clipped it wide of the mid-on region as the ball raced away for a boundary. However, he drew the first blood a couple of balls later by taking the wicket of Banton.

The left-arm pacer went back to the fullish length around the off stump of the right-handed batter, who was a tad early into the drive and ended up chipping it to the cover region, where Arafat Minhas grabbed a simple catch. The ball seemed to hold onto the stumps a little bit.

In his second over, Afridi removed Joe Root for five runs. This time, the batter saw the width and went for the cut but failed to keep it down as the ball went low to the backward point region. Saim Ayub stayed low and took it inches above the ground.

How Pakistan’s Bowlers Started With the Ball Against England

Another big wicket for Pakistan came through the run-out of Harry Brook, who made the fastest double-century of the ODIs in the very last game against Sri Lanka, which even though came in a losing cause. Brook was short of the crease while finishing the run and was dismissed for one run.

England found themselves in a shell as they were reduced to 19/3 in the fifth over of the innings before Ben Duckett decided to free his arms with a six and a boundary on successive balls to release the pressure in the sixth over.

Brief Scores: Pakistan 38/3 (Ben Duckett 26*, Shaheen Afridi 2/18) vs England
