The Indian T20I captain, Shreyas Iyer, celebrated his maiden century in the shortest format during the opening game of the five-match series against the West Indies at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, as his mother’s reaction went viral on social media platforms.
Iyer remained unbeaten on 102 off just 43 deliveries at a strike rate of 237.21, thanks to 10 boundaries and six over boundaries, as the Indian side completed the chase of 172 by eight wickets with 32 balls to spare, taking a 1-0 lead after the opening encounter of the series.

Back home, Shreyas Iyer’s mother, Rohini Iyer, and his sister, Shresta Iyer, were enjoying the game, and the moment the right-handed batter used his feet and smashed a massive six over the long-on region to take himself to the three-figure mark, his mother showered her emotions.

Rohini Iyer was in tears, crying loudly along with Shresta as the moment went viral on social media. The latter has always been vocal about her brother’s performance in the field, as he made several videos during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 when the Punjab Kings (PBKS) struggled in the middle half of the season.

“Well, definitely exultant. That's the word I would use today (for the) performance. And yeah, obviously speaking, I was actually thinking about getting my first century, and it came through. So, you know, I definitely want to say that dreams do come true.” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.
How Shreyas Iyer scored his century: 101* off 42 balls as India beat West Indies
After his arrival in the middle, Iyer didn’t waste any time, smashing boundaries around the ground as he continued to smash massive boundaries till getting to his half-century. That was his first landmark in the last 10 innings of the shortest format. He shifted his gear and smacked two consecutive sixes against Akeal Hosein.
Matthew Forde was put into the stands by the Indian captain as his century came off just 42 balls. That became his second consecutive century in the T20s at this venue, having scored 101* against LSG in the IPL 2026. He became the third Indian captain, along with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, to celebrate T20I centuries.
