Just when it felt like Shivam Dube would inject some aggressive batting towards the middle overs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the home captain, Shubman Gill, grabbed a stunning catch to dismiss the all-rounder.

Before that, it felt that Shivam Dube would keep the hopes of the Super Kings alive, even by a slim chance. It was an important game from Gujarat’s perspective for their chances to be among the top two positions and be part of the first qualifier in Dharamsala.

How Gill pulled off the diving catch that left the CSK dugout stunned

On the second delivery of the 11th over of the first innings, Dube launches Rashid Khan for a massive six into the crowd. The leg spinner tried to cramp the southpaw with the leg stump lined up. But the Indian batter was aware of it and put it into the stands over the deep square leg region.

On the very next delivery against the bowler, the left-handed batter got dismissed. The Afghanistan spinner changed the line outside the off stump. It was also the googly, and Dube had to reach for the lofted shot. He got it off the toe-end as it flew over the extra cover region.

Shubman Gill ran back and dived to hang on with both of his hands. He threw the ball up and pointed his finger to his lips in a gesture of silencing the larger portion of the CSK fans in the stadium as Dube made his way back to the hut for 47 runs in 17 balls.

Dube’s dismissal changed the momentum as the CSK side lost their last four wickets for just 24 runs and got bundled out for 140 runs in 13.4 overs to face a massive defeat of 89 runs. Only five of their batters got themselves into double figures, while only Dube crossed the 25-run mark.

Earlier in the game, Gujarat posted a decent score of 229 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. india's Sai Sudharsan, Gill, and Jos Buttler made a massive contribution with three half-centuries as they qualified for the first qualifier.
