A new name has topped the charts in women’s cricket, with Laura Wolvaardt reaching No.1 in the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings. The captain of South Africa experienced outstanding success at the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, has seen her rise above the rest with a record-breaking tournament.
Wolvaardt overtook India’s Smriti Mandhana, who had dominated the rankings throughout the World Cup. The Proteas skipper’s outstanding performances in India included scoring centuries in both the semi-final and final, taking her total to 571 runs, the most by any player in a single edition of the Women’s World Cup. This remarkable run lifted her to the top with a career-best rating of 814, marking a two-spot jump in the rankings.
Mandhana, despite losing the top position, had a fantastic campaign herself. The Indian opener was named in the Team of the Tournament and now sits second in the rankings with a rating of 811. Meanwhile, Australia’s Ellyse Perry moved into the top ten, climbing to joint seventh (669) alongside New Zealand’s Sophie Devine, who recently announced her retirement from ODI cricket.
Jemimah Rodrigues, Phoebe Litchfield Among Biggest Gainers
India’s Jemimah Rodrigues also made headlines, breaking into the top ten after her match-winning century against Australia in the semi-final in Navi Mumbai. Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield surged up 13 spots to a career-high 13th position (637), thanks to her brilliant century in the same game.
There were also major shifts in the Bowling and All-Rounder Rankings. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp climbed two spots to a rating of 712, closing in on England’s Sophie Ecclestone for the No.1 bowler position, following her stunning 5/20 spell against England in the semi-final. India’s Deepti Sharma, named the Player of the Tournament, moved up to fourth in the all-rounder rankings (392) after her all-round heroics in the knockouts. Meanwhile, Nadine de Klerk jumped two places to 10th among all-rounders, wrapping up a strong World Cup campaign for the Proteas.
