Suryakumar Yadav provides latest update on Shreyas Iyer's injury ahead of AUS vs IND 1st T20I
The T20I captain of the Indian cricket team, Suryakumar Yadav, has provided the latest update on the fitness of the middle order batter, Shreyas Iyer, ahead of the 1st T20I of the five-match series against Australia in Canberra.

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has provided a major update on Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batter, on the eve of the opening T20I clash of the five-match series against Australia on October 29 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Iyer was reportedly taken out of the ICU.
Shreyas Iyer had suffered internal bleeding from the impact while taking a catch to dismiss Australia’s Alex Carey during the third encounter in Sydney. He was soon rushed to the hospital after the medical reports informed that he had picked up a laceration injury to the spleen. Suryakumar addressed that he rang Iyer up before calling the physio to get an update.

“The first day I got to know he was injured, I called him. Then I found out he didn't have his phone with him, so I called the physio, Kamlesh Jain. But I have been talking to him over the last two days. He has been replying. If he can reply over the phone, that means he is stable.” Sky expressed to the media in Canberra.

Shreyas isn’t part of the T20I squad, having already been out of the frame in the shortest format during the Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He has clubbed 2917 runs in 67 innings of the 50-over format at an average of 47.81 and a strike rate of 99.01 with five centuries and 23 half-centuries at the best score of 128*.
“It's looking good. The doctors are there already. They will keep him under observation for a few days. However, he has been replying and talking to everyone, which is good.” Suryakumar addressed.
“The team doctor and physio didn't take any chances and took him to the hospital immediately. Things are stable now, but it could have been fatal. He's a tough lad and should be fine soon. Since there has been internal bleeding, he will certainly need more time to recover, and at this point, it's difficult to put a definite timeline on his return to competitive cricket.” The medical team concluded.
