The Super Eight match of Group 2 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is currently occurring between USA vs West Indies at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Jun 21, 08:30 PM local. West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. Roston Chase and Andre Russell claimed 3 wickets each and helped West Indies restrict the opponent to a below-par total.

Andries Gous shines amid batting struggle

Put into bat first, the USA got a big blow as Steven Taylor got out for 2 off 7. However, Andries Gous and Nitish Kumar steadied the ship in the middle. They added 48 runs before the latter got out for 20 runs as well as Gudakesh Motie trapped him before the stumps.

Soon Gous also got out for a quick 29 off 16. Captain Aaron Jones could only manage run-a-ball 11 whereas CJ Anderson and CJ Anderson couldn’t contribute much. However, Milind Kumar and Shadley van Schalkwyk later tried their best.

But, they could score only 19 and 18 respectively as well. Wickets at regular intervals didn’t let USA batters settle down in the middle. Ali Khan, however, tried to score quickly towards the end as he smashed a quick 14 off 6 with a four and a six. But he didn’t get much support from the other end.

Andre Russell and Roston Chase claim 3 wickets each

West Indies bowlers did exceptionally well. Andre Russell and Roston Chase picked up 3 wickets each as well. Alzarri Joseph also claimed 2 wickets as well. However, with this, Andre Russell picked up the most wickets (27) for West Indies in the T20 World Cup.

On the other hand, Alzarri Joseph claimed the most wickets for West Indies in a T20 World Cup edition (11) as well. Meanwhile, 3/19 is Roston Chase’s best bowling spell in his return to T20Is at a venue where he achieved his best figures in Tests: 8/60 vs England in January 2019 as well.

Andre Russell said after the first innings: “It felt good, we know how important this game is. It’s good to start the first 20 with a positive note. Happy with the total and hope that the batters can get it as quickly as possible. From the last game, we talked about a few things we went wrong and areas we can improve on.

Definitely seen improvement, we as a bowling unit stand up in meetings and I tell the bowlers to bowl their best ball at all times. If a batter plays a good shot, then don’t panic. We showcased our talent tonight in terms of our bowling. I am happy with how we kept calm. We restricted them to a good total. Wicket isn’t that bad, it’s coming on nicely to the bat. Confident with our batters.”
