During the first over of the Australia Women vs Pakistan Women Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the 25-year-old fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck suffered a massive injury during a brave fielding.
It was an important match for both teams, especially for Pakistan Women. Australia Women’s captain Alyssa Healy sent Pakistan Women to bat first.
The injury incident happened during the first over of the Group A match at Dubai. On the fourth ball of the first over, Muneeba Ali’s edge against Megan Schutt’s delivery opened up Pakistan Women’s account.
Tayla Vlaeminck's desperate attempt cost her
The ball was running towards the boundary and Tayla Vlaeminck was chasing from the short third to save that. She bravely stopped the ball and saved two runs but suffered a dislocation on her right shoulder.
Vlaeminck seemed in very pain on the boundary while the teammates were concerned. The medical staff took her to the dressing room. Vlaeminck’s shoulder was later relocated. Her injury status will be known later.
Tayla Vlaeminck's lengthy injury journey
Vlaeminck replaced Grace Harris to return to the playing XI. In her career, Vlaeminck has faced a lot of injuries. In the 2017/18 season, the Victoria youngster experienced a dislocated left shoulder. Later, during the Australia A tour of England last year, Vlaeminck had another left shoulder dislocation which forced her to a corrective surgery.
Before her international cricket debut in 2018, Vlaeminck already had two ACL reconstruction surgeries. Due to foot injuries, she missed the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 at home, and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 as well as the Commonwealth Games 2022. The foot injury also forced her to miss last year’s Women’s T20 World Cup.
Tayla Vlaeminck's international career
In her international career, Vlaeminck has played one Women’s Test, eight Women’s ODIs and 20 Women’s T20Is. The right-arm fast bowler has picked up seven WODI wickets and 18 WT20I wickets.
