During the 24th fixture of The Hundred 2025, Birmingham Phoenix locked horns with the Welsh Fire at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The touring captain, Tom Abell, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a slow and dry surface.

The Liam Livingstone-led side decided to retain the same playing eleven, while Welsh Fire made three changes. Ben Kellaway, Stephen Eskinazi, and Riley Meredith came into the playing eleven, with Matt Henry, Paul Walter, and Luke Wells getting out of the eleven.

Birmingham Phoenix limp their way to 138/9

Ben Ducett continued to struggle with their bat. Joe Clarke, the wicket-keeper batter, clubbed 24 runs in 12 balls with three fours and one six, while Will Smeed drilled 23 runs in 17 balls. However, none of them were able to convert them to a big score, which has been their issue this season.

Welsh Fire went off to a flying start with the 72-run opening partnership in just 46 balls. Steve Smith, from the other end, was making the job done as he swung his willow for a six to bring the equation into single digits. He remained unbeaten on 47 runs in 36 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes as Welsh Fire complete chase by eight wickets and 11 balls to spare.
