The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who didn’t get a single victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 even after five clashes, need an improved batting performance when they meet the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Their issue with the bat was inside the power play, having not gotten many clinical starts in the event. 

Ajinkya Rahane, the KKR captain, won the toss and decided to bat first to offer their batters freedom for the 20 overs. They made a sole change in their playing eleven with struggling Finn Allen getting a break as Tim Seifert came into the side.

Seifert made a strong start to the campaign. He saw off the opening delivery against Mohammad Siraj, knocking the good length delivery around the off stump into the off side. But he threw his hands on the very next delivery to slap the short and wide delivery through the covers for a boundary.

But the best and most eye-catching shot of the evening came on the third delivery of the second over against Kagiso Rabada. The Kiwi batter picked the length early. He rocked back and pulled it over the deep mid-wicket region for a towering six.

Seifert welcomed the Protea pacer’s next over for another boundary. It was a back-of-the-length delivery outside the off stump. It shaped away from the right-handed batter, who played it on the rise. It was in the air for a little time, but found the gap at covers to roll over the ropes.

But unfortunately, he could not get going and was dismissed for 19 runs off 14 balls. He cut the short all towards the point region when his countryman, Glenn Phillips, grabbed a safe catch inside the circle.

KKR recover in middle overs after poor powerplay

Kolkata’s issue inside the powerplay continued even in this fixture as they lost three wickets, in the form of Seifert, Ajinkya Rahane, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Cameron Green, coming at number four, was under massive pressure but settled himself well.

The visitors recovered well with a fifty-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Rovman Powell, who cracked a decent knock of 27 runs off 19 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes.
